Pupil Premium

The Pupil Premium was introduced by the Government in April 2011 to raise the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities and to close the gaps between them and their peers.

Each year schools receive additional money called a ‘Pupil Premium’ which is allocated on the basis of the number of children on roll who are entitled to free school meals (FSM) or who have been entitled within the last 6 years (Ever 6). The money enables schools to provide specific interventions and provision to support these children and their families, in order that they make the best possible progress in school. A premium is also available to support looked-after children and also for children and young people whose parents are serving in the armed forces.

In the 2020 to 2021 financial year, schools will receive the following funding:

  • £1, 345 for each child registered as eligible for free school meals at any point in the last 6 years in Reception to Year 6.
  • £2,345 for children looked after by the local authority and children previously looked-after.
  • £310 for children of service personnel.

Schools are free to decide how to spend the Pupil Premium best to suit the needs of their children and are required to publish details of the impact of this spending on pupil progress and achievement on their school website.
